Dele Odule, a veteran nollywood actor has revealed that he once contemplated death so deeply that he went to price his own casket during a period of hopelessness and frustration over his life and career.
The actor disclosed this in an interview with Feelright TV, a clip of which surfaced online on Wednesday.
Recounting the emotional experience, Odule said fellow actor Olaiya Igwe accompanied him during the visit to the casket seller and broke down in tears.
“I had priced my own casket before, when I was in a state of hopelessness, and complete loss of hope. Olaiya Igwe went there with me. Olaiya started crying like a baby,” he said in Yoruba.
Odule explained that he was not battling any illness at the time but had become overwhelmed by disappointment over what he considered a lack of progress compared to his contemporaries.
“I wasn’t sick, I just believed I can no longer have breakthroughs in the industry. I was fed up. Because all my school mates are doing far better than me and my life was nothing to write home about,” he said.
The actor, who began his acting career in the 1970s, rose to prominence after featuring in the classic Yoruba film Ti Oluwa Nile.
His revelation has since sparked conversations online about mental health, emotional struggles and the pressures faced by entertainers behind the spotlight.
