It’s a tragic turn of events as Nigerian boxer Sherif Lawal tragically passes away during his debut professional bout.

Tragedy struck the boxing world as Nigerian London boxer Sherif Lawal, aged 29, tragically lost his life during his professional debut on Sunday.

Lawal collapsed in the ring during a scheduled six-round bout against Malam Varela at Harrow Leisure Centre. Though the fight was evenly matched until the later stages, Lawal sustained a blow in the fourth round and was unable to continue. Referee Lee Every swiftly intervened, realizing the severity of the situation.

Despite efforts from his trainer, CJ Hussein, and medical professionals who administered CPR and used a defibrillator for over 15 minutes, Lawal suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at Northwick Park Hospital.
