Isese day: Adeleke urges Osun residents to embrace religious tolerance

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among residents, as traditional religion worshippers celebrate this year’s Isese Day.

The governor congratulated traditional religion adherents in Osun State and across Nigeria, urging them to use the occasion to celebrate their heritage while praying for peace, unity and progress in the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described Isese Day as an important occasion for traditional religion worshippers to honour their faith, culture and ancestral heritage.

He said the diversity of religious beliefs in Osun remained an essential part of the state’s identity, stressing that residents must continue to respect one another regardless of their religious affiliations.

“I honour the rich tradition that defines this celebration, and congratulate every adherent, particularly in Osun State, on this remarkable occasion,” Adeleke said.

The governor said his administration had consistently recognised the importance of religious diversity and had introduced programmes and interventions aimed at strengthening unity among residents.

“As Governor, I have demonstrated deep respect for the diversity in faiths of the people, tailoring our programmes and interventions to unite and not divide,” he said.

Adeleke encouraged traditional religion worshippers to make the most of the celebration by offering prayers for peace, development and prosperity in Osun State and Nigeria.

He also urged celebrants to conduct themselves responsibly and peacefully throughout the festivities, while calling on residents of different faiths to continue promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The governor wished traditional religion adherents a joyous and meaningful Isese Day celebration and assured the people of Osun that his administration would remain focused on implementing programmes aimed at improving their welfare and advancing the state.

The celebration comes as Osun continues to emphasise its reputation for religious and cultural diversity, with the governor stressing that mutual respect among adherents of different faiths remains essential to the state’s peace and development.
