The Bauchi State governorship candidate of the new Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, has resigned his membership of the party.
Kashim announced his resignation in a statement issued on Monday, stating that his decision took effect from October 16, 2026.
In the statement titled, “A Message to My Supporters and the Good People of Bauchi State,” the former NDC candidate said he was no longer a member of the party but did not disclose his next political move.
He also did not indicate whether he would seek the governorship ticket of another political party ahead of the 2027 election.
Kashim, however, said his resignation would not diminish his commitment to the political struggle for the development of Bauchi State.
“Our political journey is far from over, and our commitment to the rescue and development of Bauchi State remains unwavering,” he said.
He said he would continue to engage with individuals and groups who share his vision of a peaceful, prosperous and economically vibrant Bauchi State.
Kashim also urged his supporters to remain calm, steadfast and united, assuring them that he would announce the next phase of their political journey in due course.
“Our mission is bigger than any political party; it is about the future of our people and the destiny of our state and country,” he added.
Kashim’s resignation comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The NDC’s presidential candidate is Peter Obi, while former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is the party’s presidential running mate.
