I’m thankful to D’Banj, Mo’ Hits for housing me during my upcoming days – Wizkid
Nigerian superstar musician Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid, has stated that he grew up around famous artist D’Banj and the defunct Mo’ Hits Records.
The Ojuelegba crooner thanked them for treating him like family while he was living with them during his early days.
Big Wiz said in an interview that he spent a lot of time with them, and that even though he lived with the whole Mo’ Hits group, they never recognized him.
He paid tribute to the band’s founding members, Wande Coal, Dr Sid, D’Prince, D’Banj, and music label owner Don Jazzy, who have all since left.
The musician also appreciated their role to the evolution of African music, stating that it was a major deal at the time and still is.
Wizkid said; “I grew up around D’Banj a lot, you know like Mo’ Hits, that era. I was in the house they didn’t even know I was in the house. I was even living with them, they didn’t even know I was living with them. That was how craazy it was, cos we were just family.
“So big shoutout to D’Banj, yeah Mo’Hits, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Prince, God bless you guys, that was big, that was a strong team that did a lot for African music.”
