Popular Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has joined the growing list of Nigerians expressing concern over the country’s worsening economic situation, lamenting the soaring cost of food and its impact on ordinary households.
The actress said she has become increasingly troubled by the rising cost of living, noting that many families are finding it difficult to afford basic necessities, particularly food.
Kadiri shared her thoughts in a video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, where she reflected on the challenges confronting Nigerians amid persistent inflation and rising prices of essential commodities.
Actress Expresses Concern Over Hardship
Speaking in the video, Kadiri admitted that she is not someone who frequently complains about life’s challenges. However, she said recent developments have left her deeply worried about the state of the economy and the struggles many citizens endure daily.
According to her, the situation has become particularly alarming because even individuals who are relatively comfortable financially are beginning to feel the effects of the economic downturn.
She suggested that if people in her position are experiencing the pressure, low-income earners may be facing even harsher realities.
Food Prices Becoming Unbearable
The actress highlighted the sharp increase in food prices, especially the cost of tomatoes and peppers, which she described as a reflection of the broader hardship affecting households across the country.
She noted that many Nigerians now spend significant amounts on basic food items despite earning modest monthly incomes.
“As a human being, I’m not known for complaining. But you see, the past couple of days have been so troubling for me. Because if somebody like me can start to feel the brunt of the heaviness of being a human being, I wonder what other people are going through.

“The cost of tomatoes is now so high. Like, somebody will use ₦5,000 to buy pepper and tomato. Like, ₦5,000. While somebody else out there is probably earning ₦25,000, ₦30,000, ₦40,000 or ₦50,000. But you are only using ₦5,000 to buy tomatoes and peppers.”
Calls Attention To Nigerians’ Struggles
Kadiri further lamented that feeding, one of the most basic necessities of life, has become increasingly difficult for many Nigerians due to rising prices.
According to her, the continuous increase in the cost of food and household essentials is taking a toll not only on people’s finances but also on their emotional and mental well-being.
Her comments add to ongoing conversations about the impact of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis on millions of Nigerians struggling to make ends meet.
