The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, honoured its invitation and gave a statement as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged fraudulent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
In a statement on Tuesday by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, J. Okor Odey, the anti-corruption agency said Gbajabiamila visited its headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 20, 2026, where he responded to questions from investigators probing the circumstances surrounding the controversial council.
According to the Commission, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate how the PFIPC, which the Presidency has since disowned as a fraudulent entity, allegedly operated from offices within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for about two years.
The Commission said the alleged operation was led by one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who reportedly presented himself as the Director-General of the council.
ICPC stated that Gbajabiamila arrived at its headquarters in the afternoon and spent some time with investigators before leaving the premises after providing the required statement.
The Commission clarified that the President’s Chief of Staff was invited as part of the investigation and was neither arrested nor detained.
“The Chief of Staff’s visit was on the invitation of our investigators and consistent with ongoing efforts to gather all relevant facts in the matter. He was not arrested; he simply willingly honoured an invitation,” the statement said.
The ICPC added that investigations into the alleged fake investment council are continuing and assured that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
