“I was offered ₦50,000 monthly” – Man recounts disappointing job interview with senator in Abuja

A Nigerian man has shared his experience after attending a job interview with a sitting senator in Abuja, claiming the politician offered him ₦50,000 monthly for a social media manager role.

In a video shared on his TikTok page, the man, who applied for a position with the senator’s NGO, said he was excited after discovering that the senator would personally interview him. However, he claimed the politician’s attitude changed after learning that he was a corps member.

According to him, he initially expected to earn about ₦500,000 monthly based on the senator’s luxurious home, car and political position.

During the interview, the senator reportedly asked how much he expected to be paid. Trying not to sound greedy, the man said he requested ₦250,000.

“This man just burst out in laughter and then he looked at the person sitting next to him and said, ‘Oh, all these Gen Zs of this generation, you people want to run before you crawl,’” he narrated.

He said the senator questioned why a corps member would expect ₦250,000 and explained that his NGO did not hire corpers. However, he claimed the politician offered him ₦50,000 monthly for the position.

The man said he rejected the offer and insisted that ₦200,000 was the least he could accept, but the senator reportedly told him nobody would pay him such an amount in Abuja.

Despite the experience, he said he left determined to succeed without relying on politicians or connections.

“I walked out of that place with a resolve that, you know what? I’m going to make it in Abuja without any politician’s help, without any of this connection,” he added.

He added that he eventually secured better opportunities and advised young people not to allow influential individuals to make them feel undeserving of better opportunities.
