Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has revealed that he made millions of naira years ago from selling Akara and bread, recalling how he turned the small business into a profitable venture.
The governor made this known on Wednesday, September 2, during the state’s monthly covenant prayer service, weeks after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu advised Nigerians to explore low-capital businesses such as Akara and KuliKuli making.
Speaking at the event, Umo Eno explained that he started selling Akara and bread and later introduced what he called “Akara Burger,” where the Akara was placed inside bread for customers.
“We still have that shop there. I started selling Akara and bread. Back then, I was doing Akara Burger. We open the bread and put it inside for you. People going to Exxon Mobil will buy it in the morning, take coffee. We started coffee shop. Every month, that Akara business used to give me nothing less than ₦10 million in a month,” he said.
The governor’s revelation has generated reactions online, particularly coming shortly after Oluremi Tinubu’s advice that Nigerians should consider small-scale businesses as a means of improving their financial situation.
While some Nigerians questioned how much ₦10 million represented at the time, others applauded Umo Eno for sharing his entrepreneurial experience and encouraging people to explore legitimate business opportunities.
