I Let Out The Giant Elephant Of Fuel Subsidy Without Bringing Down The House – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that fuel subsidy issue was not included in his inauguration speech, but he had to make the announcement because fuel subsidy was a scam and was hindering growth. The President said this when he met with members of the Nigerian community in France on Friday. He said that he was able to remove the giant elephant of fuel subsidy without bringing down the house.

It should be recalled that during his inaugural speech on May 29th, Tinubu had announced that fuel subsidy was gone, a development which had sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.

The announcement from him had led to an instant increase in the price of fuel, and there were even calls for protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). But some people had also maintained that the removal of subsidy was the right thing to do at the moment.

According to the statement which was released by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communication and Strategy, Dele Alake, President Tinubu was quoted as telling Nigerians in France that the Special Adviser on Monetary Policy, Wale Edun, and Alake, did not include the fuel subsidy in his inaugural speech, but he felt it was necessary to announce the removal of fuel subsidy on his first day.

In the report which was made by Sahara Reporters, he said – “We have transport challenges, electricity challenges, infrastructural challenges and others. I let out the giant elephant of fuel subsidy without bringing down the house.”
