Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president and a candidate for the presidency in 2023, has stated that he owes no one any allegiance other than the oath he took to Nigerians when he took office in 2015.

On Tuesday, April 26, during his political consultations in Ogun state, Osinbajo stated this. He said this despite speculations that his choice to run for President was a betrayal of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, his former principal and erstwhile political godfather, who had also revealed his presidential ambitions ahead of 2023.

Speaking to his supporters in Ogun, Osinbajo said

”After all I have learnt, if called upon to serve the nation, should I say No? I have decided that I will run for the office. I have sworn an oath to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is an oath to our people; our children and the future of Nigeria. I owe nobody else any allegiance outside the oath.”

The president said that his administration had exceptionally improved Nigeria’s business climate. The president requested that the corporate sector contribute to the government’s efforts to reduce poverty and create jobs for young people. Nigeria was placed 131 in the World Bank’s ease of doing business rating in 2020. The country rose 15 spots from its previous ranking of 146.

‘‘No administration has done as much as we have done in the creation of a climate best suited for business, big and small, to thrive. The business index that is globally recognized has acknowledged that the ease with which business is carried out in the country has never been better than it is today. We will continue to make it better.

We will equally continue to count on the support of the private sector to improve economic growth and create new job opportunities for our teeming population.

Employment is critical to stability and prosperity of our country. Government and the private sector, working together, have an opportunity to transform the lives of people in ways that was hard to imagine in the past.”the President said
