“I had already planned to appoint Ogogo” – Yayi reveals late actor’s cabinet role if elected governor

APC governorship hopeful, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has vowed to immortalise late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan Ogogo if he wins the Ogun State governorship election in 2027.

Speaking during a condolence visit to Ogogo’s family in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, the senator made the promise.

Adeola described Ogogo as a “personal person” and cultural ambassador whose death was a major loss to Ogun State and Nigeria.

He also revealed that plans had been made to fly the ailing actor to India for advanced medical treatment.

According to him, visa applications had already been processed and travel arrangements were in place. However, Ogogo’s health deteriorated before the visa could be issued.

“Death was cruel for taking Ogogo away from Yewaland, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole. He was scheduled to be taken to India for advanced medical treatment. We had already processed the visa applications and made all necessary travel arrangements. However, before the visa could be issued, he became extremely weak and could no longer make the trip,” he said.

Adeola also revealed that Ogogo supported his governorship ambition and founded “Governor’s Boys,” a grassroots group to mobilise support for him across Ogun State.

He disclosed that he had planned to appoint the actor as Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism with full cabinet rank if elected governor.

“I had already planned to appoint Ogogo as my Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism with full cabinet rank if I am elected Governor of Ogun State. Ogogo was not just an icon from Ilaro, but an ambassador who elevated the image of Ogun State and Nigeria through his craft,” he added.

Adeola further promised to sponsor Ogogo’s 40th-day prayer and continue supporting his family.
