A Nigerian lady has cried out after ₦196,000 was allegedly debited from her OPay account through a transaction she said she did not initiate or authorise.
The incident was shared on Facebook by Oga Yenne, who narrated the woman’s experience and her efforts to recover the money.
‘I Had Not Initiated Any Transaction’
According to the woman, she received an unexpected OTP request on her phone around 8:00 a.m., prompting her to become suspicious.
She said she immediately switched off her phone because she had not initiated any transaction.
“Yesterday, at about 8:00 a.m., I received a notification on my phone requesting that I input an OTP sent to my number to complete a transaction. I immediately became worried because I had not initiated any transaction.”
However, she claimed that after switching her phone back on, it went through an initialization process before she received a notification that the transaction had been completed.
She said ₦196,000 was subsequently deducted from her OPay account.
Money Allegedly Sent to Another Account
The woman said she contacted OPay customer service but was dissatisfied with the response she received.
She consequently visited an OPay office to lodge a formal complaint.
According to her, she was informed that the money had been transferred to an account belonging to a person identified as Esther Okeogene Benson.
She said she contacted Esther and appealed to her to return the funds, but Esther reportedly denied having an OPay account.
‘Funds Are Being Transferred In and Out’
The lady said Esther later gave a different explanation when she contacted her again.
According to her, Esther claimed that money was moving in and out of her account without her knowledge.
“Funds are being transferred in and out of her account and she doesn’t have any idea how that is going on.”
The development has left the lady confused about how the transaction was completed despite her claim that she neither initiated nor authorised it.
