“I celebrate when people get divorced” — Bovi

Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has shared his perspective on marriage and divorce, revealing why he does not view every divorce as a failure.

The entertainer made the remarks during a conversation with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, where he discussed the realities of married life and the growing number of separations in society.

According to Bovi, some divorces may represent a necessary end to unhealthy situations rather than something to be condemned.

His comments have since attracted attention online, with many social media users weighing in on his views.

Bovi explains stance on divorce

Speaking during the interview, the comedian said he believes some marriages become difficult environments for one or both partners.

Explaining his position, Bovi stated:

I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage.”

The actor noted that while divorce is often viewed negatively, he sees it differently when individuals are unable to thrive within a relationship.

Comedian reflects on his own marriage

Bovi also spoke about his personal experience as a married man, acknowledging that marriage comes with challenges.

While discussing his relationship, he said:

My own marriage hasn’t been easy, but I would never make life difficult for anyone, and I wouldn’t want anyone to make my life difficult.”

The comedian has been married to Kris Asimonye since 2009, and the couple share three children.

Over the years, he has occasionally spoken publicly about marriage, describing it as a journey that requires understanding, patience and commitment.

Bovi’s comments have generated mixed reactions online. While some people agreed that leaving unhealthy marriages can be beneficial, others argued that couples should exhaust all possible solutions before considering divorce.

The discussion has further highlighted ongoing conversations about marriage, compatibility and personal wellbeing.
