A lady has sparked widespread reactions on social media after claiming she asked a friend to refund the ₦150,000 she contributed towards his wedding after the marriage ended just four days later.
The lady shared her frustration in a post, explaining that she was deeply disappointed by how quickly the union collapsed despite the significant financial support she had given for the wedding ceremony.
According to her, the couple announced the end of their marriage on their status, leaving many people surprised as no reason was disclosed for the sudden separation.
Lady says she asked for refund after marriage ended
Sharing her experience, the lady said, “I didn’t sleep for almost a week after giving ₦150,000 to a friend on his wedding ceremony, only for the marriage to end after four days.. Not even four weeks or four months. No one knows the reason, they just posted it on their status and that’s it. I felt cheated cause tell me why you guys didn’t separate before the wedding? I ended up asking for a refund. My friend blocked me the next day. I feel cheated honestly. What do you mean you guys are done after collecting my ₦150,000?”
Her post quickly gained traction, with many social media users debating whether wedding gifts or financial contributions should ever be refunded when a marriage ends shortly after the ceremony.
Social media users share mixed opinions
While some commenters sympathised with the lady and described the situation as unfortunate, others argued that money given during a wedding should be regarded as a gift rather than an investment or loan, regardless of how long the marriage lasts.
Others, however, said they understood her frustration, noting that the marriage ended unusually quickly and questioning why the couple proceeded with the wedding if they were already facing serious issues.
The discussion continues online, with many users divided over whether her request for a refund was justified.
