The Federal Government’s ₦50,000 relief grant is reaching selected Nigerians through approved payment providers, including MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB), which serves MTN subscribers.
The support is part of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to assist vulnerable households.
According to the government’s official NERSI portal, beneficiaries are selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register. Having an MTN line or MoMo account does not automatically qualify a customer.
Selected beneficiaries receive an SMS from their payment provider. For MTN users, the message should come through MoMo PSB and explain how to accept the support. The grant is not paid until the recipient gives consent.
Beneficiaries who receive a genuine notification can dial the MoMo PSB USSD code, *671*0#, and follow the instructions to accept the ₦50,000. The process can be completed without a smartphone or internet connection.
After acceptance, a mobile wallet is opened and linked to the beneficiary’s phone number and National Identification Number (NIN). The ₦50,000 is then credited, with a confirmation message sent by the provider. Recipients can access the funds through MoMo agents, bank transfers or other available wallet services.
The government says the programme is free. Beneficiaries should not pay agents or share their personal identification number (PIN), one-time password (OTP) or banking details with anyone claiming to facilitate payment. Those who have not received a message may not have been selected in the current batch; payments are being processed in phases.
How to receive the grant
Selected MTN subscribers should dial *671*0# from the phone number linked to their notification and follow the prompts to accept. For programme enquiries, call the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222. Do not dial codes from unverified messages and avoid suspicious links.
