The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered what it described as a sophisticated indoor cannabis cultivation and processing facility at a residential property in the Apapa area of Lagos, arresting two suspects in connection with the discovery.
The suspects were identified as Thomas Razvickas, a 49-year-old Polish national, and James Chisome, a 36-year-old Nigerian.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said in a statement on Tuesday that the facility was uncovered on November 2 after operatives acted on intelligence received by the command.
According to her, officers searched the premises and discovered what police described as a “sophisticated indoor farming facility equipped for the cultivation, harvesting and processing of substances suspected to be cannabis.”
The two suspects, who were said to be residents of the property where the facility was discovered, were arrested during the operation.
The police said both men are currently in custody and are assisting investigators with information concerning the alleged operation.
The command further said the suspects had made statements to investigators as efforts continued to determine the scale of the operation, the source of materials used at the facility and whether other persons were involved.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, subsequently visited the property to inspect the facility and receive a briefing from officers handling the investigation.
Fatai urged residents to continue providing useful information to the police, assuring the public that the command would remain proactive in tackling criminal activities across the state.
The police said investigations into the suspected cannabis cultivation and processing facility are ongoing.
