Hayden Panettiere’s Dad Just ‘Starting To Come Back’ From Son’s Death Before Being Struck By Her Sudden Passing

Hayden Panettiere tragically passed away at age 36, leaving her family, friends, and fans devastated a mere three years after the death of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere.

Following the sudden loss of Jansen in 2023 owing to a heart condition, their father, Alan Panettiere, had reportedly begun to recover before facing this new tragedy.

Before her passing, Hayden Panettiere was planning a trip to visit her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, in Ukraine and had recently reflected on her growth and mortality.

Hayden’s father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, was recently recovering from the passing of his son, Jansen Panettiere, when his daughter died, according to his New York City neighbors.

The former New York City firefighter and retired captain had reportedly “retreated” from his tight-knit community of Piermont, a neighbor told the New York Post.

Three years after Jansen’s death, the Hayden patriarch was finally recovering from the trauma of losing his son.

Another neighbor claims that he “seemed like he was starting to come back from it.” Hayden had reportedly just visited her father in New York the month before her death, making her loss all the more difficult for him.

In an official statement released through media outlets, Alan confirmed the tragic passing of his beloved daughter.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the grieving father said. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

He then requested privacy as the family takes time to process “unimaginable loss.”

Jansen passed away suddenly in February 2023 at age 28; he was found unresponsive in his Nyack, New York apartment. In a statement obtained by ABC, the cause of death was revealed to be cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart) coupled with aortic valve complications.

Hayden spoke openly about the profound grief she carried after the loss of her brother, whom she described as her other half.

The “Heroes” actress told People, “He was my only sibling, and it was my job to protect him. When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul.”

As reported by the Daily Mail, Hayden said on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast this past May, “There’s nothing in my life that feels like losing my other half, the other half that was born to be the yin to my yang.”

She has noted how close the two of them were and how hurt she and the family were following his death. “We were so close, and especially being the older sibling, it’s your job to protect them and keep them safe, and not being able to is… I mean, heartbreaking doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

The “Nashville” actress, shortly after his death, didn’t want to “live in a world” where her younger brother no longer exists.

Hayden is survived by her daughter Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, whom she shared with former heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. Hayden would later give full primary custody to Klitschko after the couple separated.

In the weeks before her death, Hayden had been planning a trip to visit her 11-year-old daughter in Ukraine, where she resides with her father.

As reported by Page Six, Erick Orellana, Hayden’s hairstylist and close friend, talked about how excited Hayden was about the trip.

“She was talking about how she wanted to take a vacation, and that she wanted to go and see her daughter,” Orellana said. He emphasized that “her daughter was always her absolute priority. She loved her so much.”

The hairstylist also shared that Hayden loved spending time with her daughter and frequently showed off photos of the 11-year-old and told stories about her.

“Her daughter was the absolute light of her life,” he said. “She lit up when she spoke about her. Everything she did revolved around her.”

Orellana added that her death must have been accidental, as Hayden “just loved her daughter and would never have left her.”

Earlier in 2026, Hayden released her memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning”, in which she spoke about her rise to fame as a child star, her life, and mortality.

The actress wrote, “I never want to stop evolving and changing for the better, and I’ll forever be a work in progress.”

She continued, “But one thing I know from my 36 years in the public eye is this: Life is a process that evolves day by day, year by year, and like it or not, you are engaged in a cycle of growth until the moment you take your last breath.” A message that has found new life following the star’s tragic death on August 16.

In what has become one of her final interviews before her passing, Hayden addressed her approach to life, saying, “I’m a work in progress; we all are. I take each day as it comes. I’m doing the work, and I’m doing my best.”
