The Natives, A pro-democracy group, has commended President-elect Bola Tinubu for resolving the feud between Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Senator Magnus Abe. The reconciliation took place during Tinubu’s visit to Rivers for the inauguration of the Rumuokwuta-Rumuola Flyover.

The rift between Wike and Abe stemmed from their political differences, and it led Abe to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022 and contest the governorship election in Rivers under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

During his visit, Tinubu encouraged the governor and the former lawmaker, who was previously an ally, to reconcile. The Natives group praised Tinubu’s diplomacy and described him as a unifier and bridge builder.

Additionally, the coordinator of The Natives, Smart Edwards, criticized the Joe Ajaero-led Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) for its partisan involvement in the previous presidential election. Edwards warned the NLC against causing trouble or attempting to disrupt the inauguration of the President-elect on May 29.

The statement suggests that the NLC’s engagement in politics has affected its credibility and compromised its advocacy for the common people. The group advised all parties, including the NLC, to support the progress ahead and collaborate with the President-elect, emphasizing the role that labor should play in this regard.
