The Chief Magistrates’ Court No. 1, Gombe, on Monday granted bail to a 55-year-old woman, Antine Amadu, who was arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen property.
Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters in Gombe, was brought before Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa over allegations that she dishonestly received a gallon of Turkey cooking oil valued at ₦60,000.
State counsel Hafsat Aliyu told the court that the defendant allegedly received the cooking oil from one Ibrahim Hassan of Aniya Quarters, Gombe, at about 1 a.m. on August 27, 2026.
The prosecution alleged that the item had been stolen from Haruna Magaji of Ajiya Quarters, Gombe.
Aliyu said the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.
“The defendant is before this honourable court for allegedly receiving property which she knew or had reason to believe was stolen,” the state counsel told the court.
When the charge was read and explained to Amadu, she pleaded not guilty.
Following her plea, the court considered her application and admitted her to bail.
Chief Magistrate Kilawa subsequently adjourned the case until September 14, 2026, for hearing.
The allegations against Amadu have not been proved, and she remains presumed innocent until found guilty by a competent court.
