On Thursday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ chapter at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State requested that President Bola Tinubu and Inspector General of Police Alkali Baba find the people responsible for the murder of Opeyemi Ajewole, a professor of social and environmental forestry development there.

The PUNCH had previously reported that Ajewole had been brutally slain on Monday while returning home in the Orogun neighborhood of the state’ s Akinyele Local Government Area, by unidentified gunmen.

In a statement from its leader, Ayo Akinwole, ASUU added urged IGP Baba to provide the state police command with all the logistical support required to identify and apprehend the victims’ killers.

Akinwole additionally called on Tinubu to take a keen interest in the matter and see to it that the security strategy reveals the identities of those responsible for the lecturer’ s murder.

He claimed that every ASUU- UI member’ s heart was bleeding so freely that it seemed to be pierced by swords. Our bones trembled so violently that it felt as though our marrows were exposed in the tundra.

” We vehemently condemn the awful assassination of our comrade Ajewole and order the security personnel to find and detain those responsible to determine the reason for the occurrence and hold those responsible accountable. “

” The only honor due to Ajewole’ s passing is that his killers are brought to justice and that the Tinubu administration values the lives of Nigerians. The horrific murder of Ajewole serves as a reminder of just how worthless human lives have become in our society. “

” In our nation, death is readily available and lurks in every conceivable location. Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, assassination, starvation, unemployment, and many other sneaky destroyers of our individual and shared dreams plague the Nigerian public continuously. “

” The academic condition of Nigerians is considerably more dangerous because they are prophets with little respect at home. Nigerian academia is ridiculed and treated horribly by the Nigerian government and the general public for being unrepentant patriots, despite their substantial contributions to national growth and progress and respect in the world community. “
