A fire outbreak on Tuesday has destroyed the main library of Kano State Polytechnic located along Yahaya Gusau Road in Kano, destroying valuable books, equipment and academic records.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the Kano State chapter chairman of the National Library Staff Union, Malam Nazir Muhammad, who described the destruction as a major setback to teaching, research and knowledge preservation in the institution.
According to the statement, the fire razed important educational materials and working tools within the library, sparking concern among staff and students of the polytechnic.
The union expressed sympathy to library workers, the management of the institution and students affected by the incident, stressing the crucial role the library plays in supporting academic activities and research.
It also appealed to the government, educational authorities and well-meaning individuals to support efforts aimed at rebuilding and improving the facility.
The latest incident comes amid repeated cases of fire outbreaks recorded at the institution in recent times.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
