FG Begins Processing Unpaid TVET Stipends as Start-up Kits Near Distribution

The Federal Government has announced fresh developments in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme following a stakeholders’ meeting involving the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and TVET centre managers on October 30, 2026.

Distribution of start-up kits across approved centres is expected to begin soon. Eligible Cohort One trainees will be prioritised for the initial distribution, while eligible Cohort Two trainees are expected to receive their kits after completing their training.

Centres may use available kits during practical training sessions to improve trainees’ hands-on experience while Cohort Two training continues.

The kits cover approximately 20 trades, including Electrical Installation, Computer Hardware Repair and Maintenance, Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation, Network System Installation, Woodwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Leatherwork, Furniture Making and Upholstery, Welding and Fabrication, and Automobile Mechanics.

Eligible trainees must acknowledge receipt of their kits through their respective trainee dashboards after collection. The acknowledgement is required to confirm that the kits have been handed over to the approved beneficiaries.

NELFUND is also processing supplementary payments for trainees whose July and August stipends were unsuccessful. Payments are also being processed for centres that submitted their monthly reports for July and August after the initial deadlines.

In addition, the first component of the Third Tranche payment for Cohort One centres is being processed. Disbursement is expected to begin after the necessary processes have been completed.

The updates were shared following the meeting between programme stakeholders. They are intended to strengthen training delivery and support trainees’ transition from skills acquisition to self-reliance and entrepreneurship.

Centre managers have been urged to ensure proper documentation, maintain accurate attendance records and continue providing quality practical training as the programme moves forward.

What to do

Trainees should remain active and consistent in their training and monitor their trainee dashboards for updates. Eligible beneficiaries receiving starter kits should complete the digital acknowledgement after receiving their kits. Centre managers should maintain accurate records, ensure trainees are properly documented and follow the programme’s instructions.
