Femi Branch pleads with politicians to stop using children as political pawns

Nollywood actor Femi Branch has appealed to Nigerian politicians to keep children out of political conflicts, expressing concern over the growing trend of school abductions across the country.

The actor made the appeal in a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, shortly after the release of the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victims regained their freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity, bringing an end to a prolonged ordeal that drew national attention.

Reacting to the incident, Branch lamented the emotional and psychological impact of kidnappings on young victims, stressing that children should never become casualties of political disagreements.

He urged political leaders to rise above partisan interests and prioritise the welfare and protection of Nigerian children.

“I just want to appeal to everyone in this country. Whatever dirty politics we’re playing, can we please leave innocent children out of it?” the actor said.

According to him, Nigerian children already face enormous challenges, including an education system plagued by multiple problems, and should not be subjected to additional trauma through insecurity.

“The children in this country are suffering enough. The quality of education they receive is already poor, and now they have to endure experiences like spending weeks in captivity,” he added.

Branch also referred to comments made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde following the abduction, noting that the governor had suggested the timing of the incident raised questions.

According to the actor, such statements have fuelled speculation that the kidnapping may have been politically motivated.

Without directly accusing any individual or political group, Branch urged leaders to avoid dragging innocent children into political battles.

He emphasised that the abducted pupils, having spent nearly two months in captivity, would require psychological care and support to recover from the traumatic experience.

The Nollywood star stressed that his comments were not intended as an attack on any politician but as a heartfelt appeal for compassion and responsibility.

He called on political actors across the country to ensure that children are protected from the consequences of political rivalry and insecurity.

“Please, I’m not attacking or calling out anybody. I’m simply appealing that we leave innocent children out of our madness,” Branch said.
