FCT police arrest six-member ‘one chance’ kidnapping syndicate, recover ₦8.25m ransom

The FCT Police Command has arrested 6 members of a kidnapping and armed robbery “one chance” syndicate responsible for abducting a young lady in Maitama and collecting ₦8.25 million ransom.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, disclosed this during a press briefing at the FCT Police Command Headquarters on July 7, 2026.

According to the CP, the Violent Crime Response Unit tracking team was deployed on June 29, 2026 after a distress call. Digital tracking revealed the victim was moved to Kwan-kwashe Village in Niger State. The suspects released her on July 3, 2026 after collecting the ransom.

On July 5, 2026, police arrested the gang in Suleja, Niger State. The suspects include gang leader Ifeoma Nnamchi, 35, and her two children Gabriel Nnamchi, 14, and Stanley Nnamchi, 17. Others are Peter Rasheed Onwunumah, 40, Olanipekun Anuoluwa, 46, and Jemimah Monday, 25.

Exhibits recovered include the ₦8.25m ransom, two tinted vehicles – Toyota Corolla SMK 559 FV and Toyota Camry YAB 712 NH, one cutlass, seven earpods, jewelries, five phones, and one laptop.

CP Sanusi said investigations revealed Ifeoma and Olanipekun are repeat offenders previously arrested in 2022 and 2019. The syndicate confessed to kidnapping five other female victims since 2024 and extorting ₦12.8 million.  

The suspects will be charged to court after investigations, he said.
