Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, who is accused of pretending to be a police officer and trying to rape a female student at Malikiyya College of Health in Bauchi.
He is also accused of trespassing and theft after reportedly sneaking into the female students’ hostel early Friday morning while wearing a police camouflage uniform.
The police said the incident was reported on July 24, 2026, after the college made a distress call. Initial findings showed that around 2:30 a.m., the suspect allegedly entered the female students’ hostel at Old GRA, Bauchi, while dressed in a full police camouflage uniform.
Police said Saleh claimed he worked for “Garu Security Service,” but investigations showed he was not a police officer.
After the report, the Divisional Police Officer from B Division led detectives and patrol officers to the scene, where they arrested the suspect. Police also recovered the camouflage uniform he allegedly wore as evidence.
Police said further investigations connected the suspect to several theft cases that had been reported earlier around the students’ hostel.
Saleh is still in police custody as the investigation continues. Police said he will be taken to court once the investigation is finished.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned individuals and private security groups not to impersonate security agencies.
He also assured residents, especially students, that the police are committed to protecting lives and property in and around schools throughout Bauchi State.
