Ex-Presidential Candidate Ameh Joins NDC

By MBACHU GODWIN, Abuja

Former Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Alliance, PPA, High Chief Peter Ameh has formally joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC.

“Ameh in a letter Friday announcing his decision said he will join hands with other Nigerian democrats to strengthen democracy in the country.

“I write to formally announce my decision to join the NDC and identify with its growing democratic movement and clearer vision for our nation, Nigeria.

“Over the years, I have remained actively involved in Nigeria’s political development, serving as a two term National Chairman of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), two term Chaiman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and a presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.

“All through this journey, my belief has always been that politics should not only be guided by integrity, internal democracy, inclusion, and genuine service to the people, but also for the betterment of the majority

“Our dear country is passing through a very difficult period by reason of either lack of focus or the inability of the incumbent government to come to terms with, or find solutions to the challenges facing the citizenry. Our fellow citizens are struggling with economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and uncertainty about the future with no foreseeable end in sight.

“At a time like this, I believe that patriotic Nigerians and progressive political forces must come together to help build a stronger, credible democratic alternative capable of restoring hope and confidence among our people and salvaging the country from the abyss of hopelessness we have found ourselves.

“My decision to join the NDC is, therefore, based on the conviction and on the need to continue contributing meaningfully to a much stronger democratic process and accelerated national cohesion and development. I believe the party provides the platform for the above, constructive engagement, credible leadership, and people-oriented governance and also help enthrone good and protective leadership that Peter Obi represent’s for millions of well meaning people in Nigeria.

“Like many Nigerians, I also believe in the need for leadership that is accountable, prudent, compassionate, and focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens. It is important that political leaders and democratic institutions continue to work together in the interest of national unity, stability, and progress.

“I therefore respectfully request that my membership of the NDC be formally accepted. I look forward to working with the leadership and members of the party toward strengthening democracy and advancing the collective interest of the Nigerian people.

Please accept my warm regards and best wishes”
