Former House of Representatives member Aminu Danmaliki has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) as political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
Danmaliki, who represented Bauchi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, announced his defection during a press conference on Saturday, describing the move as a carefully considered personal decision driven by his desire to serve the people through a platform he believes reflects his political ideals.
The former federal lawmaker insisted that his decision was not motivated by personal ambition or political pressure but followed extensive consultations and deep reflection on the country’s current realities.
According to him, political parties should exist primarily to improve the lives of citizens rather than serve the interests of a privileged few.
“I took this decision based on my conviction that politics should be about service to the people and finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting our society,” he said.

Danmaliki explained that his exit from the ruling APC was peaceful, stressing that he bears no resentment towards the party or its members.
He expressed appreciation to leaders and supporters he worked with during his years in the APC, noting that political differences should never become personal conflicts.
The former legislator, however, said the country is currently facing enormous socio-economic challenges that require leaders to adopt people-centred policies capable of improving living standards.
He pointed to the rising cost of living, unemployment, inadequate healthcare services and declining access to quality education as some of the pressing issues demanding urgent attention.
According to him, governments at all levels must focus on creating opportunities that will enable Nigerians to live productive and dignified lives.
Why PRP?
Danmaliki described the Peoples Redemption Party as a platform committed to social justice, accountability and inclusive governance.
He said the party’s ideology aligns with his vision of promoting quality education, accessible healthcare, rural development and sustainable economic growth.
The former lawmaker argued that Bauchi State possesses abundant natural resources, fertile agricultural land and talented human capital capable of transforming the state’s economy.

He, however, blamed years of poor leadership, weak policy implementation and ineffective governance for preventing the state from reaching its full potential.
Danmaliki also threw his weight behind Senator Shehu Buba, who is expected to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election on the platform of the PRP.
He pledged to deploy his political experience, network and grassroots support to strengthen the party ahead of the polls.
Reflecting on his public service career, Danmaliki highlighted his experience as a journalist, businessman, commissioner, federal lawmaker and former leader of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, saying every stage of his career has been guided by a commitment to public service.
He expressed confidence that the PRP would provide a credible alternative for the people of Bauchi State and promised to work with other party leaders to build a stronger political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
