A Nigerian lady has advised women on what she described as certain “lies” they should tell men who intend to marry them about their past relationships.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she warned women against telling a prospective husband that they had previously slept with a married man, arguing that such information could later be used to justify infidelity in the marriage.
She also advised women not to disclose the number of men they had been intimate with, suggesting that women in their twenties or thirties should give a much lower figure regardless of their actual history.
In her words:
“Do not ever tell a man that wants to marry you that you did hook up or agree that you have ever slept with a married man. No. Don’t do that, you’re giving him a pass to cheating.
Do not ever tell a man that wants to marry you the number of men you have been with. If you’re in your early twenties, tell him one. If you’re in your late twenties, two boyfriends. Even if you have been with fifty, it’s two.”
The lady further cautioned women against disclosing the number of abortions they have had, claiming that such information could later be used against them.
She also urged women not to reveal experiences of abuse to a prospective husband, claiming that some men could use such information to minimise their own abusive behaviour.
“If you were battered and you tell a man, on a good day, he will slap you and unconsciously tell himself, ‘Well, at least I didn’t do as much as your ex did,’” she added.
Her advice has generated debate over whether women should conceal parts of their past when entering marriage.
