The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Traditional Rulers, Mai-Martaba Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has approved the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the 13th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirtate.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Emir’s Spokesman, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona.
The appointment followed rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani emerged victorious among several distinguished scholars vying for this prestigious spiritual leadership position.
He succeeds Alhaji (Dr) Muhammad Bashir Imam OON, who died on 19th January 2026.
Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki, aged 42, is a grandson of the 8th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.
Prior to his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Egbejila, Ilorin. He also served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers at Afusat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin.
Additionally, he is a presenter of the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation Radio Program on Radio Kwara during Ramadan and teaches at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
The new Chief attended Al-Hikmah University where he is currently studying Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies , Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt where he bagged Bachelor of Arts in 2014 Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Shari’ah and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Institute of Education) where he bagged Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education.
He also attended Darul Kitab wa Sunnah, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin in 2007a
and Oke Suna LGEA Primary School, Ilorin.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari therefore offered prayers for the new Chief Imam’s successful reign, wishing him long life, sound health, and divine wisdom to effectively pilot the affairs of the Muslim Ummah.
