Man, 35, Arraigned Over Alleged Receipt Of Stolen Vehicle

A 35-year-old man, Adebayo Okuntade, was on Thursday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations bordering on conspiracy and receipt of stolen property. The case was filed by the Commissioner of Police.

The prosecution informed the Magistrate that the matter relates to allegations of incidents that occurred within the Lagos Magisterial District, at Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on 17th December, 2025, at about 11:44 a.m and the defendant acted alongside others who are currently at large.

On the allegation of conspiracy, the prosecution alleged that Adebayo Okuntade and others conspired among themselves to commit felony, to wit: stealing. The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

On the second count of alleged receiving of stolen property, the prosecution said that on the same date, time and place, the defendant received a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon 2012 model with Lagos registration. The vehicle was said to have been received at a rate below market value.

The prosecution informed the court that the vehicle was the property of one Mr. Chinedu Jeff and was allegedly received from one Mr. Innocent Benjamin. The alleged value of the vehicle was placed at N22,000,000.

The second count was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 323(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. This section addresses the offence of receiving property suspected to be stolen under Lagos State law.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Under Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to provide evidence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment, with addresses verified by the Court.

The case was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending perfection of bail conditions.
