The Edo South Senatorial District candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Don–Pax Osifo, on Tuesday said the party would shock other political parties by winning the district and other areas in the 2027 elections.
Osino, who was accompanied to Benin City, the state capital, by the Edo South Senatorial Chairman, Osaro Iselemon, from Abuja, where he had gone to collect his nomination form, said that bridging the infrastructural gap and tackling insecurity would be his priority if elected.
Speaking to journalists at the Benin Airport, where he was received by thousands of supporters of the PDP before a road show to the city centre, Osifo said the primary election was over and that the party should forget its rift and prepare as one for the election.
According to him, “This election is not about me. It is about that graduate on the streets of Benin aspiring for great opportunities, it is for that trader in the streets of Benin doing everything on daily basis to see how to feed their families.
“It is for that farmer investing time and other resources to ensure that the communities of Edo South senatorial district are fed. It is about people who believe that it is time for us to take a transformative step to ensure that the emancipation of our people is achieved.”
Osino, while lamenting the dearth of infrastructure in the district, added that across the district, insecurity had impeded farmers from engaging in large-scale farming.

“Even though the legislative business is to see how we create laws to better the lives of our people but you can also sponsor bills that guarantee security and safety of our people in order for them to carry on their businesses, in order for them to go to the far to their farm.” The PDP candidate stated.
Osifo said he is a bridge builder and he was ready to unite the party, “I am a bridge builder, we are not at war, we have done the primaries, we all have to come together now to be one and ensure that we move as a united force and we will perform well in the forthcoming election.”
Also speaking, the Edo South Senatorial Leader, Iselemon, said the crowd that greeted the candidate less than 24 hours when it was announced that members should be at the airport to welcome their candidate showed that the party would win the election.
He said, “You can see for yourself, this notice was given in less than 24 hours, that you can gather this crowd tells you that Edo state is PDP, we are hopeful we believe in the strength of PDP and that we can out there, mobilise our people and win the election.
