A lady has called off her wedding after her fiancé allegedly spent almost ₦2 million of money given by his brother to support their marriage on suits for his groomsmen.
According to the account making the rounds online, the man’s brother gave him ₦5 million in the presence of his fiancée to support their wedding.
The brother reportedly instructed him to use ₦3 million for the wedding, give his wife ₦1 million and keep the remaining ₦1 million for himself.
However, the groom-to-be allegedly used the ₦3 million for the wedding as planned before spending almost all of the remaining ₦2 million on suits for his groomsmen. He reportedly paid for the suits without asking the groomsmen to contribute.
Lady objects to how money was spent
The woman reportedly became upset after discovering that she received only ₦200,000 instead of the ₦1 million her fiancé’s brother had specifically asked him to give her.
The situation reportedly escalated after she described her fiancé’s decision to spend the money on his groomsmen as selfish and something she could not overlook.
She subsequently decided to call off the wedding despite preparations already being underway.
The development has reportedly left several groomsmen affected, with most of them said to have already sewn their outfits at a combined cost of about ₦1.8 million.
Wedding cancellation sparks debate
The situation has generated discussion over whether the woman was justified in cancelling the wedding or whether the groom’s decision to buy suits for his groomsmen could be considered a legitimate use of the money.
While some may question the decision to call off a wedding over the dispute, others may see the handling of the ₦5 million as an indication of deeper disagreements over financial priorities and trust between the couple.
The controversy continues to fuel conversations about money, boundaries and decision-making between couples preparing for marriage.
