“DJ Chicken Remanded Over Alleged Threat To Kill Seyi Tinubu” — Court Grants ₦1m Bail, Adjourns Case To August 3

A social media personality and content creator, Abiodun Ademola, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos over an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

Ademola, 37, of Tafodi Estate, Lagos, was arraigned on Friday before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to life, offensive online publication and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The prosecution, led by SP Okunuga, Officer-in-Charge, Legal, Command Headquarters, Ikeja, alleged that the offences were committed on July 5, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m. in Lekki, Lagos.

According to the charge, the defendant allegedly posted a video on his Facebook and Instagram accounts, @djchicken, in which he threatened to kill Seyi Tinubu if President Bola Tinubu contested or won the 2027 presidential election.

The prosecution alleged that the video was intended to reach Seyi Tinubu and cause fear, alarm and intimidation through its circulation on social media.

Police further alleged that the video was grossly offensive and menacing, and was transmitted through a computer network in violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

The prosecution said the alleged conduct was also capable of disturbing public order and causing a breach of peace.

The offences were said to contravene Sections 232 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, as well as Section 24 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.

When the charges were read to him, Ademola pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Onamusi granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court directed that the sureties must satisfy verification requirements, including evidence of tax payments, Lagos State Residents Registration Agency verification, National Identification Number and other documents as required by the court. One of the sureties is also required to be a blood relation of the defendant.

Pending the perfection of the bail conditions, the magistrate ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.

Following public backlash, DJ Chicken was said to have posted another video retracting the remarks, describing them as a joke made for attention and insisting that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu.

The defendant has not been convicted of the allegations.
