The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Excellence in Public Service of the Year Award by the African Iconic Women Recognition Awards (AIWRA).
The award was presented to Mrs. Zubaida Umar at a high-profile event held under the Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN) Women Leadership Summit in Abuja on Saturday, 23rd May, 2026. Other recipients of honours at the event included Honourable Ministers, senior public officials, and private sector women entrepreneurs who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour.
The Director General of NEMA was represented at the event by a delegation led by Mrs. Bolanle Ojo, Deputy Director, Special Duties. While receiving the award on behalf of the DG, Mrs. Ojo conveyed Mrs. Zubaida Umar’s appreciation to the organisers for the honour and her dedication of the award to the staff of NEMA and the Agency’s stakeholders for their commitment and support towards effective disaster management and humanitarian service delivery.
The award is a further affirmation of the outstanding leadership and contributions of Mrs. Zubaida Umar to public service and humanitarian coordination, having also been celebrated last year as the African Iconic Woman in Public Service.(Source:NEMA, Facebook)
