Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo, describing the operation as a demonstration of professionalism, intelligence-driven policing and effective inter-agency collaboration.
Musa gave the commendation in a statement personally signed on Tuesday night and made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja.
He congratulated the officers and personnel involved in the operation, which led to the rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from three schools in Oyo State on July 10, 2026.

The rescued victims were kidnapped from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinle, all located in Oriire Local Government Area.
“The coordinated operation successfully secured the safe release of students and staff abducted from three academic institutions,” the minister said.
He noted that the operation was carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Security Adviser’s Tactical Team, and other security and paramilitary agencies.
According to Musa, the successful mission highlights the growing synergy among Nigeria’s security and intelligence institutions.
“The exceptional synergy displayed by the multi-agency coalition serves as a textbook example of modern, intelligence-driven security initiatives,” he said.
Describing the operation as a remarkable demonstration of professionalism and courage, the minister said the rescue reflected the dedication and sacrifices of security personnel working under difficult conditions to protect lives and safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
He, however, expressed condolences to the families of security personnel who lost their lives during the operation.
“Regrettably, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of our courageous and selfless personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice during this operation.
“Their unwavering commitment to duty and sacrifice exemplify the highest ideals of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. I pray that God grants their families the courage and comfort needed during this period of grief. The Federal Government stands with their families during this difficult time and remains committed to their welfare,” he said.
Musa reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the nation’s security agencies under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the Federal Government would continue investing in modern military equipment, intelligence gathering, specialised training and inter-agency cooperation to enhance the country’s ability to tackle terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
According to him, ongoing investments are already yielding positive results across various operational theatres.
While celebrating the successful rescue, the minister urged commanders and personnel across the country to sustain the momentum by replicating the level of coordination and tactical efficiency displayed during the Oyo operation.
He also appreciated the Oyo State Government and residents for their cooperation throughout the operation and called on Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
“The Ministry of Defence proudly congratulates all gallant personnel involved in this mission and reaffirms its unyielding commitment to building a safer, more secure and prosperous Nigeria,” Musa added.
