Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has congratulated Kenya’s William Ruto on being upheld as president-elect by court verdict.

Kenya’s Supreme Court, on Monday, Sept. 5 affirmed the victory of Ruto in the country’s presidential election held in August.

He was declared the winner of the just concluded election, but his rival, Raila Odinga, had filed a suit challenging the election results.

Delivering the judgement, Chief Justice Martha Koome struck out Odinga’s suit and upheld Ruto’s election.

Moments after the news broke, Davido took to his Twitter account and congratulated the president-elect as well as people of Kenya.

He tweeted; “Congratulations to Dr William Samoei Ruto on being declared 5th President of the Republic of #Kenya @WilliamsRuto. Also, Congratulations to the people of Kenya! DEMOCRACY WINS AGAIN.”

In its unanimous judgment, the apex court dismissed the petition by the opposition leader.

The Chief Justice, Martha Koome read the judgment on behalf of other justices.

Koome said; “This is a unanimous decision. The petitions are hereby dismissed, as a consequence we declare the first respondent (Ruto) as president-elect.” Adding that the alleged irregularities in the election “…were not of such magnitude as to affect the final results of the presidential election.”

Ruto polled 50.49 percent of the total votes cast (7,176,141) to defeat his closest rival, ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga who polled 48.85 percent (6,942,930) votes.

However, Odinga had rejected the results alleging irregularities, and took the matter to court.
