The Czech Republic Embassy in Nigeria has refuted online claims that Nigerian students are eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship program for the academic year 2027/2028.
According to a statement sent by the embassy on Monday, Nigeria is not eligible for the scholarship program for the 2027/2028 school year.
The statement came following the spread of information about the scholarship online, including suggestions that Nigerian students could apply.
The Embassy stated, “For the 2027/2028 academic year, Nigeria is not among the countries eligible for the Czech Government Scholarship programme.”
It warned Nigerian students to avoid material provided on illegitimate websites that listed Nigeria as an acceptable country.
“We have seen some information circulating online about Czech Government Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year, including information indicating that Nigerian applicants are qualified. Please be aware that this information is incorrect,” the statement said.
The embassy recognized Nigerian students’ interest in studying in the Czech Republic, but confirmed that the government scholarship would not be offered to Nigerian candidates for the 2027/2028 academic year.
“We know that many Nigerian students are interested in studying in the Czech Republic, and we understand that this may be disappointing news,” it said.
“Unfortunately, the Czech Government Scholarship is not available to applicants from Nigeria this year.”
As a result, the embassy encouraged prospective Nigerian applicants not to depend on information about the scholarship program published on illegitimate websites.
Students seeking correct information should contact the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, which offers study possibilities for international students.
The Embassy added, “Please do not rely on information published on unofficial websites stating that Nigeria is eligible for the 2027/2028 Czech Government Scholarship.”
The clarification is intended to avoid prospective Nigerian applicants from acting on incorrect information or making preparations based on an eligibility claim that does not apply to them.
The embassy commended Nigerian students for their understanding and wished prospective students well in their academic endeavors.
