CP Oyeniyi warns officers against social media misuse, seeks stronger community partnership in Ogwashi-Uku

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has warned police officers against unauthorised use of social media and reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, extortion and other forms of professional misconduct.

The warning came in a statment during his strategic familiarisation tour to the Ogwashi-Uku Area Command, where he held separate meetings with officers and key stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen policing and deepen collaboration with communities across the state.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, on Wednesday.

Addressing officers and men of the Area Command, the police commissioner charged them to maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, integrity and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties. He urged them to embrace ethical, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

CP Oyeniyi stressed that officers must strictly comply with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning against unauthorised online engagements or any social media activities capable of bringing the Force into disrepute.

He also reminded officers that the Inspector-General of Police remains firmly committed to eliminating extortion, corruption, abuse of office and every form of unprofessional conduct within the Force.

“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate misconduct in any form. Officers must remain disciplined, professional and committed to ethical policing while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities,” the Commissioner said.

The visit also featured an interactive stakeholders’ meeting attended by the Prime Minister of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, who represented the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, the Obi of Nsukwa, representatives of the Arewa, Yoruba and Igbo communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), vigilante groups, youth leaders and other community stakeholders.

Speaking at the engagement, CP Oyeniyi underscored the importance of public support in combating crime, noting that effective policing depends on trust, credible intelligence and sustained cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.

He urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information that would assist security agencies in preventing crime and responding swiftly to security threats.

The Commissioner commended the stakeholders for their continued partnership with the police and assured them that the Delta State Police Command would remain committed to proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations and the protection of lives and property across the state.
