A Nigerian woman, Mokema Chioma Nneka and a man, Ekeh Onyemachi Stanislus, have been convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each, by a Federal High Court Lagos.
Both Nneka and Stanislus were convicted and sentenced to the jail-term by Justice Akintayo Aluko, after they both pleaded guilty to account charged slammed against the in a charge marked FHC/Lag/CR/697/26, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today.
The two convicts, according to the NDLEA lawyer, were arrested for trafficking in 4.70 Kilogrames.
NDLEA prosecutor had told the court that the convicted women, Nneka after smuggled the prohibited drug into the country on June 25, 2026, and procured the second convict, Stanislus, a resident of 4, Raji Aliu street, Ajao Estate, Ikeja, Lagos, to moved the drug to another place.
The prosecutor had told the court that the actions of the two convicts contravened sections Section 21(2)(g) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and punishable under Section 11(b) of the same Act.
The two convicts, admitted committing the offences and pleaded guilty to the charges.
Based on their guilty pleas, the prosecutor after reviewing and tendering of exhibits in the charge through an exhibits keeper, Kenneth Babajiya, prayed the court to convict and sentence them based on their pleas, exhibits tendered and in accordance to section 274(2) of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
However, lawyers to the two convicts, Jude Ihedu and Emmanuel Uchenna Okenyin, pleaded with the court to tamper Justice with mercy, in sentencing their clients.
Both lawyers begged the court to consider the early guilty plea of their clients as a sign of remorse and that they are first time convicts, who did not have any previous records of conviction.
The lawyers prayed the court to consider a non-custodial sentence or fine options in lieu of the jail-term.
In sentencing the two convicts, Justice Aluko after considering the lawyers’ submissions and confirmed from the prosecutor that the convicts are first timers, sentenced each of the convicts to 15 years imprisonment.
The judge however ordered the two convicts to pay N1 million each as a fine option to the custodian sentence.

“That you, Ekeh Onyemachi Stanislaus, male, adult, on or about the 25th day of June 2026, at No. 4, Raji Aliu Street, Ajao Estate, Ikeja, Lagos State, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, possessed without lawful authority 4.70 kilograms of Cannabis sativa, a narcotic drug similar to cocaine, LSD, heroin, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.”
