Corporate trustees seek path through regulatory transformation at Lagos conference

The Association of Corporate Trustees of Nigeria (ACT) is set to host its 2026 Annual Conference on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The conference, themed “A New Legal Order: Corporate Trustees at the Intersection of Regulatory Reforms,” will provide a strategic platform for stakeholders within Nigeria’s financial services and capital market ecosystem to examine the evolving regulatory environment and its implications for corporate trusteeship practice.

The event is expected to attract regulators, policymakers, trustees, legal practitioners, financial institutions, capital market operators, and other key stakeholders to discuss emerging legal and regulatory developments that are shaping the future of trust services in Nigeria.

Speaking on the significance of the conference, ACT President Omolola Iyinolakan said the increasing pace of regulatory reforms within the financial system requires corporate trustees to remain proactive, adaptive, and aligned with global best practices.

“The evolving legal and regulatory landscape presents both opportunities and responsibilities for corporate trustees,” Iyinolakan said.

“As fiduciaries within the financial ecosystem, trustees must continuously strengthen governance standards, compliance frameworks and stakeholder confidence while adapting to emerging reforms shaping the capital market and financial services industry.”

The conference will feature the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Emomotimi Agama, as Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, while the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Raymond Omachi, will participate as Special Guest and Keynote Speaker.

Other distinguished speakers and panelists expected at the conference include professionals from the legal, regulatory, tax, and financial services sectors, including representatives from KPMG West Africa, Banwo & Ighodalo, and other notable institutions.

A major highlight of the conference will be a panel session themed “The New Rules of Money: Navigating Recapitalization, Taxation & Regulatory Transformation.”

The session will examine the implications of ongoing financial sector reforms, evolving tax frameworks, recapitalization initiatives, and regulatory changes on businesses, investors, and fiduciary institutions. Discussions will also explore how corporate trustees can effectively navigate the changing financial landscape while strengthening governance, compliance, and investor confidence.

Speaking on the broader industry relevance of the conference, chairman of the planning committee, Sola Seweje, said the gathering would provide stakeholders with an opportunity to shape the future of trusteeship practice in Nigeria.

“As the regulatory landscape continues to evolve, corporate trustees must position themselves at the forefront of governance, compliance, and institutional accountability,” Seweje stated.

“This conference provides an important opportunity for industry stakeholders to shape the future of trusteeship practice in Nigeria collectively.”

Participants at the conference will also benefit from high-level networking opportunities, thought leadership discussions, and stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening collaboration across the financial ecosystem.

The ACT Annual Conference remains one of the foremost industry gatherings dedicated to promoting professional excellence, policy dialogue, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s trusteeship and financial services industry.
