The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has declared that contrary to insinuations, Christians are the major beneficiaries of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
NACOMYO noted that they are the ones benefiting more in terms of political patronage and appointments.
NACOMYO made these assertions in response to the renewed opposition to President Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
Recall that Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) and the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN) had earlier opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
But, NACOMYO in its reaction, described the renewed opposition to the arrangement as tantamount to sheer hypocrisy.
NACOMYO, in a statement signed by its National Secretary, Alhaj Mas’ud Ayodele Akintola, claimed that Christians benefit more than any other religious groups in the current dispensation led by Tinubu.
Akintola, in the statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday, recalled that at the inception of this administration when Christians raised an alarm over alleged marginalisation, the Presidency declared that 62 percent of appointments made were for Christians while other religious groups had just 38 percent.
He explained that this trend continues till today if we consider the replacement of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Isiaq Oloyede who were replaced by Christians.
Akintola added that the Muslims are the ones who are supposed to make the loudest noise in view of glaring imbalances in the appointments so far made.
Akintola, while speaking further, appealed to religious organisations to continue to support the government with wise counsel and prayers to lift the country to greater heights instead of crying foul where there is none.
The statement reads, “The renewed opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of President Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential polls by some Christian groups in the country is tantamount to sheer hypocrisy. Christians benefit more than any other religious groups in the current dispensation.
“NACOMYO wishes to remind the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) and the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN), that while Muslims voted overwhelming for the Tinubu presidency, Christians rooted for another Presidential candidate. Is it not ironically that those who were supposed to eat from the pulpits are now eating crumbs?
“Coming against the backdrop of the scathing criticisms of the Presidency by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), NACOMYO asserted that Muslims are supposed to make the loudest noise in view of glaring imbalances in the appointments so far made.
“The apex Muslim youth body recalled that at the inception of this administration when Christians cried foul against marginalisation, the Presidency declared that 62 percent of appointments made were for Christians while other religious groups had just 38 percent. The trend continues till today if we consider the replacement of the Minister of Power and Registrar of JAMB (positions hitherto held by Muslims)with Christians.
“Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Benjamin Kalu, recently declared that 780m was inserted in his constituency budget for 2026 and this is meant for 200 churches in Bende Federal Constituency.
“According to a press statement issued by his media officer, Levinus Nwabughiogu “the first phase of this project target 130 churches, averaging about 10 churches per ward which amounts to approximately N5m to N6m per church,” he said. Up till now, no Islamic organisation has had that privilege of being taken care in the National budget.
“It is therefore clear from the foregoing, “who is being beaten, who is crying foul?”. NACOMYO appeals to every religious group to continue to support government with wise counsel and with prayers to lift our beloved country to greater heights instead of crying foul where there is none”.
