Champions League: Six Serie A clubs could qualify for next season’s competition

Serie A could have six teams in next season’s Champions League following Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final on Wednesday. Ademola Lookman scored a stunning hat-trick, securing Atalanta’s first major trophy since 1963.

Prior to Atalanta’s win, Italy and Germany were already guaranteed a fifth Champions League spot due to their superior coefficient rating. However, Atalanta’s victory ensures Italy will have six places in the Champions League if they maintain their position in fifth place in the Serie A table.

As a result, Roma, currently guaranteed to finish sixth, would also qualify for the Champions League as the fifth league qualifier.
