BREAKING: After 14-Year, Sadio Mane Retires From Senegal National Team

Sadio Mane has announced his retirement from international football, ending a remarkable 14-year spell with Senegal following the country’s World Cup exit to Belgium.

Naijaonpoint Nigeria reports that Sadio Mane, 34, confirmed his decision in a statement published by Senegalese newspaper Le Quotidien, just days after the Lions of Teranga suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat in the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mane bows out after making 130 appearances for Senegal, leaving behind a legacy that ranks among the finest in the nation’s football history.

The former Liverpool forward, who also played for FC Metz before rising to global prominence, helped Senegal win their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021 and became one of the country’s most influential players.

Reflecting on his international journey, Mane said: “Know that I have sacrificed everything for this flag. I have given the best of myself and have always fought fiercely for our homeland.”

He also thanked Senegalese supporters for standing by him throughout his career.

“Your constant support has been the driving force behind my success,” he said.

Although his playing days with the national team are over, Mane indicated he intends to remain involved in Senegalese football.

“Tomorrow, it is with pleasure that I will put my experience at the service of the Nation, whether within a technical staff, on a coaching bench, or in governing bodies,” he said.
