Bolt driver cries out over low earnings, begs platforms to increase fares

A Nigerian ride-hailing driver has lamented low earnings after spending the night working for Bolt and inDrive, claiming he made ₦60,000 despite buying fuel worth ₦80,000.

In a video making the rounds online, the driver and some of his colleagues expressed frustration over the cost of running his vehicle, saying his earnings were insufficient to cater to his family’s needs.

According to him, he has a wife and four children to feed, pays their school fees and also bears the cost of servicing his car.

The driver called on inDrive and Bolt to review their fares, arguing that the current rates make it difficult for drivers to earn enough despite working long hours.

“I bought fuel worth ₦80,000 and worked all night yesterday as a Bolt and inDrive driver, but I got ₦60,000 this morning. Now, I have nothing to take home to feed my family.

Please, inDrive, increase your price or leave Nigeria because na una dey spoil work for us drivers. Bolt, increase your price, please.” he lamented.

He further urged Bolt and inDrive to increase its prices or leave Nigeria, accusing the platform of making work difficult for drivers.

The driver’s complaint has drawn attention to the concerns of ride-hailing drivers over fuel expenses, vehicle maintenance and the cost of supporting their families amid calls for better fares.
