Bola Tinubu Ran Against A Northerner But Got Most Of His Votes From The North- Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

The spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed in an interview with Arise , disclosed that majority of the votes president Bola Tinubu got from the last election came from the north.

He said this following Nyesom Wike’s recent claim that senator Godswill Akpabio deserves to be senate president on the basis that the south-south is in actual position to produce the next senate president.

Speaking in the interview, he noted that despite contesting against northerners like Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Northerners still went ahead to vote for Bola Tinubu.

He said close to 60 percent of the votes that Bola Tinubu got in the last election came from Northerners, so they have as much right to also demand that the senate presidency should be zoned to the North.

He however noted that the north recognizes that they are only a single part of Nigeria and other parts of the country deserve to be included in the nation’s affairs.

He said “I saw former governor Wike sitting majestically in a chair, and saying bring the senate presidency to the South-South, if someone like Wike can say that, what’s wrong with the north for instance saying, we would like to see that the number three position going to the north.

“This business of the north is always asking for itself, who should we ask for? Who should plead for the north other than northerners? But, we have a government in place now that has been produced substantially by northern votes. Close to 60% of votes that president Bola Tinubu had came from the north, that was a choice that northerners made, he ran against a Northerner, but the records shows that he got most of his votes from the north. 

“So, if the north says that we would like to see some level of reflection that we matter in this country, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, the north recognizes that it is only one part of Nigeria and other parts of the country are entitled as much as the north is entitled to see some of representation of their own interest in Nigeria in the scheme of things.”
