The Nigeria College of Bishops and Peace Initiative Movement has called on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to immediately suspend Prophetess Mary Oluwaseye Yomi Sholoye, founder of the New Seraph Church, pending a full investigation into allegations surrounding her conduct.
Speaking in Abuja, the group’s National President, Bishop Abel King, said the demand was driven by concerns over the integrity of the Christian faith and the public image of its clergy. He alleged that the prophetess had become linked to issues raising “serious moral, spiritual, and ethical questions” in the public space.
The group claimed that documents circulating in the public domain point to meetings involving individuals allegedly connected to transactions worth hundreds of millions of naira, including discussions reportedly linked to political appointments and public office arrangements. It further alleged that some of the meetings took place in Abuja with witness’s present and agreements drafted and signed.
According to the bishops’ such allegations raise troubling questions about the relationship between spiritual guidance and financial or political dealings.
“Christianity does not teach the buying of political offices. Christianity does not support spiritual manipulation for earthly power. Christianity does not endorse secret financial dealings disguised as prophecy or divine influence,” the statement read.
The organisation also expressed concern over a petition reportedly filed by Prophetess Sholoye against HRH Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing it as selective and misleading in light of claims surrounding the financial transactions.
The group urged CAN to take several actions, including launching a disciplinary and doctrinal review, suspending the prophetess from ministerial activities pending clarification, distancing the Church from alleged commercialisation of spirituality, and reinforcing accountability within the Christian community.
“This is not persecution. This is accountability,” Bishop King said, insisting the Church must not be seen to tolerate conduct that contradicts biblical principles. The group also called on security agencies to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into all parties involved.
As of press time, CAN had not issued an official response to the demands, while efforts to obtain comments from Prophetess Sholoye were unsuccessful.
