Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed relevant agencies in State coordinated by the Project Implementation Office of Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), to take adequate proactive actions in order to avoid devastating flooding forecast to occur in the State in the month of August.
The disclosure was made by the Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr Ibrahim Kabir, at a One-day Stakeholders Engagement on 2026 Flood Preparedness and Response in Bauchi State, held on Tuesday.
In his remarks, he disclosed that the flooding is expected to be devastating in Eight LGAs of the State affecting various communities and institutions.
According to him, “The Governor received information from the relevant forecasts of impending flooding in the State. He immediately directed the relevant MDAs, including the BASEPA, the State Ministry of Environment and Housing, both the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, so that we can respond to the situation. Based on the prediction, that between July and August, Bauchi will experience flooding.”
He added that,”Unfortunately, for the State, it was estimated that about 1,662 communities will be affected. Similarly, 125 Schools, will likely be affected. 101 health facilities, from primary healthcare to the largest facility, within the period. And about Eight markets will likely be affected by the flooding.”
He said that based on the specific instructions of the Governor as a good leader, ACReSAL immediately identified the stakeholders to interact with as August approaches and the climate situation in the state.
He added that relevant field workers were also engaged in order to identify the proactive actions to take which included stakeholder interaction among the reported eight actions mentioned as the first point in communities.
According to him, “We cannot avoid the occurrence, but we can prepare. We can put the intelligence-based on ground, so that at least, we are alerted, and we can monitor the guide, the lives and properties of the citizens of the State. After that is done, and agreed that the flooding will come at time forecast , so that all the health facilities and others can be protected.”
He said that the stakeholders meeting was aimed at ensuring that all the communities identified have public information so that they can be prepared for the flooding and move away from the prone areas.
He said that,”For me, I will say that I’m very happy because I’ve seen so many things. Our Communication Officer has explained what we want from our communities because they are the ones most targeted.”
The ACReSAL PC urged the participants to go back to their various LGAs in order to intensify campaigns and sensitization so that the communities will understand the need to move away from flash points.
Ibrahim Kabir also urged religious leaders to use their various platforms to preach proactivenees by the people in order to avoid the devastating impact of flooding.
Representatives of the various relevant MDAs commended ACReSAL for the initiative saying that it will go a long way in ensuring that proactive measures were taken to avoid the flooding.
