The Nigerian Army has declared 38 senior leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province wanted following recent counter-insurgency operations.
In a statement issued by the headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai, the army said the identities of the terrorist leaders were uncovered during offensives in the Lake Chad region of Borno State.
According to the statement, troops recovered a camcorder and other intelligence materials during the operations. Subsequent forensic analysis of the devices led to the identification of key ISWAP commanders and their suspected locations within the Mangari–Metele–Dogon Chukun axis in Abadam and Kukawa local government areas.
Among those declared wanted is Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa, described as the Wali (governor) of ISWAP and one of the group’s most wanted leaders in the Lake Chad Basin.
Others listed include Muhammad Jidda, also known as “The One-Handed Man,” identified as the group’s deputy leader and Amirul Jaish, as well as Hamad Abu Hanifa, said to be the Amirul-Fiya of the group.
The army said a financial reward would be offered for credible information leading to the arrest of Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa.
It added that all information provided by members of the public would be treated with strict confidentiality, with assurances that the identities of informants would be protected.
