Chief Yilchini Jan Bida, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, has raised the alarm over alleged electoral irregularities in the ongoing party primaries, particularly in Kanke Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 22, 2026, Bida warned against the perceived use of state apparatus to undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.
He described the reported actions of illegality in the ongoing party primaries as “a brazen assault on democracy itself.”
“I speak today not only as an aspirant in the ongoing APC Governorship Primaries, but also as a proud son of Kanke Local Government Area,” Bida said.
According to the aspirant, credible reports indicate that in several parts of Kanke where there were no genuine accreditation or voting.
He also alleged that fictitious results were being prepared for declaration.
“If this is what some now call democracy, then we are tragically regressing into an era where the will of the people no longer matters and electoral outcomes are written long before ballots are cast,” he stated.
Bida, who claimed that he personally toured wards and communities across Kanke during preparations for the primaries, expressed disappointment over what he described as the subversion of the people’s mandate.
“Many waited patiently, believing that their votes would count. To now replace their voices with fabricated figures is not only fraudulent, but also profoundly insulting to the dignity and intelligence of the people of Kanke,” he added.
He warned that the area must not be allowed to become associated with electoral manipulation.
Bida further described the alleged irregularities as “authoritarianism disguised in democratic clothing,” stressing that genuine democracy thrives on participation, credible competition, and respect for the ballot.
He called on the national leadership of the APC, security agencies, and relevant authorities to immediately intervene to protect the integrity of the primary election.
“The APC must not mortgage its moral credibility for the sake of desperate political interests.
“No ambition is worth destroying the democratic foundation upon which society stands,” Bida cautioned.
